Um espaço central que permanece vazio, entre a cidade velha e a cidade nova.

Ao propor um museu para este local afirma-se subtilmente a necessidade de complementar o percurso histórico desta cidade, tanto a nível de espaço e lugar, a nível arquitectónico, como também demonstrar uma riqueza cultural existente afirmando-a.

O museu absorve muita da sensação exaltante da cidade, numa dialéctica vibrante entre passado e presente.

Este abre-se em duas ocasiões, uma para a praça, onde se desenvolve uma fachada toda envidraçada com grandes e volumosas colunas que sustentam os 15 metros de altura do edifício. Abre-se também para uma grande rampa que constituí o grande auditório do museu, com uma envolvente natural, um tecto de estrelas e como pano de fundo o interior do museu.

O seu interior foi desenvolvido segundo os princípios de flexibilidade do espaço. A iluminação zenital pretende provocar efeitos teatrais, como se de iluminação de palco se tratasse.

As galerias desenvolvem-se num L enquanto que todos os serviços prestados pelo museu localizam-se num outro volume que o encerra.

Os dois paralelepípedos de frente para a entrada encerram duas pequenas galerias para expôr peças mais pequenas e com necessidades de iluminação mais delicada e específica, em que duas estreitas aberturas que servem de entradas criam um ambiente místico no seu interior.

By proposing a museum for this area, it subtly states the need to complement the historical path of this city, in terms of space and place, on an architectural level, but also to demonstrate the existing cultural richness.

The museum absorbs much of the exhilarating feeling of the city, a vibrant dialectic between past and present.

It opens up on two occasions, to the square, where it develops a whole glazed façade with large and bulky columns that support the 15 meter high building. Also opens up to a large ramp that constitutes the large auditorium of the museum, with natural surroundings, a ceiling of stars and the inside of the museum as background.

Its interior is designed according to the principles of flexibility of space. The overhead lighting is intended to provoke theatrical effects, as if it were stage lighting.

The galleries are developed in ‘L’ shape, while all services provided by the museum are located in another volume that encloses it.

The two parallelepiped facing the main entrance contain two small galeries to display smaller and more delicate pieces that require specific lighting, where the two narrow openings serve as entrances, creating a mystical environment within.
